But, sometimes a bit more information about just what is happening during a plane flight can put passengers’ minds at ease. This relief was the goal behind one influencer’s latest video where he shared the real reasons behind the seemingly mysterious chime sounds people hear during a flight.
Flight attendant Tommy Cimato made a now-viral TikTok clip explaining the difference between an airplane’s single, double, and triple chime noises. The most commonly heard sound is the two-tone, high-low chime that means either the flight deck is trying to reach a flight attendant or one attendant is signaling another.

Passengers hear a single tone when a fellow passenger presses the “call” button above their seat. The rarest noise, however, is the triple chime which declares an emergency.
